Founder and Director
Rosalind Picard is founder and director of the Affective Computing Research Group at the MIT Media Laboratory, faculty chair of MIT’s MindHandHeart, cofounder and chief scientist of Empatica, and cofounder of Affectiva. The author of over 300 peer-reviewed scientific articles, Picard is known internationally for her book Affective Computing, which helped launch the growing field of Affective Computing. Picard is an active inventor with over a dozen patents. She has consulted for companies including Apple, iRobot, Merck, and Samsung, and her lab's achievements have been featured in forums such as The New York Times, The London Independent, National Public Radio, New Scientist, ABC's World News Tonight, Wired, Time, and Vogue.  Picard’s MIT lab creates emotionally smart AI technologies in service of better human health and wellbeing.
